2025 Guild of Music Supervisors Awards Recap: Stephen Schwartz and Bonnie Greenberg Honored



The Guild of Music Supervisors celebrated its 15th anniversary with a star-studded awards ceremony Sunday night at the Wiltern Theater, featuring Stephen Schwartz (Wicked) and Bonnie Greenberg (Hairspray) and honoring music supervisors’ work in film, television, trailers, advertising, and video games. The presenter lineup was no exception to the illustrious evening and included Jeff Goldblum, Moby, Aloe Blacc, and Chuck D.

The most talked-about appearances of the evening included Stephen Schwartz’s performance of his song “Beautiful City” from Godspell and receipt of the Icon Award for his score contributions to countless legendary musical theater productions (including Wicked, Godspell, Pippin, and Pocahontas.)  Additionally, GMS founding member Bonnie Greenberg received the Legacy Award for her many accomplishments in music production and music supervision (including Hairspray, Menace II Society, My Best Friend’s Wedding, and How the Grinch Stole Christmas.)

 

The Guild’s President Lindsay Wolfington and Vice President Heather Guibert kicked off the evening by expressing heartfelt gratitude to the GMS members, focusing on the displays of selfless generosity and solidarity of the music supervision and sync communities in response to LA’s recent wildfires.

About Stephen Schwartz

Stephen Schwartz is an acclaimed American composer and lyricist best known for his work in musical theatre and film. He has written the music and lyrics for hit Broadway musicals such as Wicked, Godspell, and Pippin. Schwartz has also contributed lyrics to Disney films like Pocahontas and The Hunchback of Notre Dame, collaborating with composer Alan Menken. His work on The Prince of Egypt earned widespread praise, including an Academy Award for the song "When You Believe." Over his career, Schwartz has received multiple awards, including three Academy Awards, four Grammy Awards, and a special Tony Award for his contributions to theatre.

 

About Bonnie Greenberg


Bonnie Greenberg is an accomplished music supervisor and producer known for her extensive work in film and television. With a career spanning several decades, she has contributed to the success of numerous hit movies, including The Mask, P.S. I Love You, Something's Gotta Give, and What Women Want. Greenberg is recognized for her ability to seamlessly integrate music into storytelling, enhancing the emotional impact of the films she works on. In addition to her work in the entertainment industry, she is an advocate for music education and frequently lectures on the role of music in media. She is also a founding member of the Guild of Music Supervisors.
