Tucked underneath the majestic Prudential Center in Boston’s Back Bay lies the celebrated mecca of music education: Berklee College of Music. This famed institution attracts the brightest international musical talents for a world-class education rooted in tradition, innovation, and experimentation. It is no surprise that Berklee has generated some of the biggest names in music, like Quincy Jones, Steve Vai, John Mayer, Diana Krall, Aimee Mann, Branford Marsalis, Alan Silvestri, and even a few APM Music staff members. All Berklee students and alumni share an undying love and devotion to all dimensions of music and the industry that elevates our art form.

Our VP of Film & TV, Adam Weitz, traveled to Boston to be a panelist for Berklee’s Career Jam on April 4th, which hosted panels, workshops, and mentoring sessions curated by their Career Services Department. This one-day event brought together over one hundred professionals, including producers and engineers, sync experts, agents, and songwriters to share their experiences and knowledge in their area of expertise.

The list of speakers at the event read like a who’s who of the music industry: Charlie Puth, Adam Blackstone, Randy Spendlove, Julia Michels, Morgan Rhodes, Julianne Jordan, Stephanie Diaz-Matos, and many others.

Adam Weitz was a panelist in the “Let That Sync In” session, which explored how music finds its way into film, television, and beyond. During the session, Adam spoke about the current state of sync in film and TV, the evolving world of production music, AI, and his own non-traditional career path—from working nights with rapper/producer MF DOOM while practicing law by day, to collecting library records and hunting for samples, scoring Saturday morning cartoons, carving out a space in sync, and ultimately coming back full circle to crate-digging and sample licensing for artists like Kendrick Lamar, SZA, and The Black Keys. In addition to the panel, Adam led one-on-one mentoring workshops with students and shared this about his experience:

“Everyone I met at Berklee—students and staff alike—was incredibly warm, welcoming, and insightful. The questions they asked reflected not only their passion, but the high-level industry education they’re receiving alongside their exceptional musical training. The fact that Berklee brought in 100 music industry professionals speaks volumes about their commitment to their students’ futures—and based on what I saw, that future looks very bright.”

The music industry is a fast-evolving space with a lot of room for growth and new ideas. Ushering in new talent is essential for building the next chapter of music and its place in visual media. APM is proud to be a part of the next generation of music synchronization colleagues through sharing our collective experience.
